Description
A scarce British circa 1900 Indian Police Force officer's officer sword in the original two ringed steel scabbard. These swords are quite uncommon and were carried by British police officers whilst serving in India. They are identical to Rifle Officer 1827 patterns, except that in place of the usual royal cypher, there is inserted the intertwined letters, “IP”(Indian Police). The hilt is nickel-plated steel with fishskin and tight silver twistwire to the grip. The blade is maker proof marked and I would date this to the first quarter of the 20th Century. The blade is etched with the royal crown and interlaced "IP" monogram replaces the Royal Cypher initials. Complete with matching nickel plated steel scabbard. Good condition overall with plating loss to the scabbard.
Length of the blade in scabbard: 102 cm (40")
Length of the blade with handle: 99 cm (39")
Length of the blade without handle: 84 cm (33")
