Description
Large lot of US WWII letters: African American soldier. There are around 80 1944-1945 letters along with a few pre war letters from a man to his wife. Some are in envelopes while most others (V-mail) are not. This soldier was in the quartermaster corps and the letters are from when he was stationed in Boston, England, France and Germany. The overseas letters are censored. There are also three photos (all the same image) of him that were included in one of the letters. The letter are very well written and the overseas ones have some good content as they mention the death of FDR, concentration camps, VE Day and VJ day, and the atomic bomb. On some letters he mentions he is writing on a captured German typewriter. There are also three letters in this lot written by friends he made in England to his wife. He also mentions these friends in his letters to his wife and says there appears to be no racial distinctions in England.
